 Part-Time Community Manager

The Village Works is a neighborhood coworking space in Brookline Village. We offer shared workspace, offices, meeting space, and community events. We aim to create a healthy, productive, and collaborative work environment for startups, small businesses, and freelancers while supporting our neighborhood. 

The Job
TVW seeks a part-time Community Manager. Our Community Managers are the first contact for our members, prospective members, and neighbors. The role is a fast-paced mix of responsibilities in the day-to-day running of a small business, including member support, building management, and outreach to visitors. The ideal candidate is able to work and prioritize independently, offer friendly assistance to members and prospects, help set up shared kitchen and snack service, and perform some technical support for members and outside meetings. 

We are looking for an independent problem-solver with excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Our ideal candidate is friendly, professional, tech-savvy, and excellent at customer service. The Community Manager reports directly to the Co-founders.

Schedule
The schedule will be set by mutual arrangement, by default five mornings per week, approximately 8:15AM-12:15PM, with one longer day for a staff meeting, plus occasional shifts filling in for other team members or covering events, per the candidate’s availability. Ideally, candidate will begin training in mid-April. Full-time employment opportunities with additional benefits may be available in the future.

Job Tasks
-Managing day-to-day member needs and ensuring a productive and positive experience for members, reinforcing community culture
-Offering tours of The Village Works to new members and inquiring neighbors, signing up new members
-Serving as first point of contact to orient drop-ins, guests, visitors and new members
-Fielding membership inquiries in person, by phone and by email
-Serving as on-duty operations point person, handling urgent and day-to-day facilities issues as they arise throughout the building
-Some administrative tasks including record-keeping, processing payments
-Some technical and audio-visual support, including assisting members and visitors with tele-meeting setup, helping troubleshoot internet and printing access, and addressing internet outages
-Performing hosting duties, including serving snacks, making coffee, light cleaning and building maintenance

-Staffing periodic events, including setup and break-down, representing The Village Works, and addressing building issues as they arise
-Additional duties in support of the essential day-to-day functioning of the business
-Some core building maintenance tasks require accessing the top level of the building by stairs and lifting 25 pounds.

About You
-Self-starting, enthusiastic, reliable employee who can handle day-to-day situations independently
-Have superlative verbal communication skills, ability to communicate effectively with diverse membership and neighbors and make a great impression of our community
-Have energetic, outgoing personality with positive attitude and interest in people and their jobs
-Have friendly and professional demeanor, including conflict-management skills and ability to keep the work culture positive and pleasant while managing member needs and concerns
-Have facility with computers (Mac, Windows, Chromebook operating systems and software), audio-visual setup and troubleshooting
-Have strong written communication and attention to detail for emails and record- keeping
-Have strong time-management and organizational skills and attention to detail
-Maintains cell phone and can be reachable by phone, text and email during shifts
-Has flexibility with schedule by arrangement
-Located in the Boston area

Desired Qualifications (not required)
-2+ years work experience in customer service-related field
-Experience working for a small business
-Interest in coworking or entrepreneurship
-Bachelor’s degree

Compensation
This is a part-time paid position with hourly rate commensurate with entry-level experience. Additional perks include personal membership, access to member discounts and events, friends and family discount, and work policies that support quality of life.
